Eight takeaways from the Huskies’ and Cougars’ week nine games

Published

Week nine brought a mixed bag of emotions for fans of the Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars.

The then No. 15 Dawgs choked against a mediocre Cal team to lose 12-10, while the No. 14 Cougs won a 41-38 thriller against No. 24 Stanford. Now, Washington State holds sole possession of the lead in the Pac-12 North.

Despite the loss, the Huskies are still very much in contention: Stanford’s loss was a big help,  as was Oregon’s utter implosion against Arizona. With a pair of winnable games against Stanford and Oregon State before concluding the season against Washington State in the Apple Cup, Washington could still wreck the Cougs’ season.

For Washington State, a week of college football chaos brought them one step close to the College Football Playoff. If they win out and win the conference, the CFP selection committee would have a very tough decision on their hands.
