ESPN’s Mark Jones has been involved in a couple of incidents with the Washington Huskies recently.
Last year, his partner, Quint Kessenich, used three cupcakes to illustrate Washington’s non-conference schedule, and later that season, Jones called out coach Chris Petersen for his attitude.
That led ESPN to pull Jones off future Huskies’ broadcasts, and in emails sent by the Worldwide Leader to UW AD Jen Cohen, an executive calls the behavior of Jones “childish” (via the Seattle Times):
“Childish behavior that is unacceptable,” an ESPN executive wrote to UW athletic director Jen Cohen in an email obtained by the Hotline via a public records request.
Nick Dawson, ESPN’s vice president for programming and acquisitions, also told Cohen that “we will also ensure that Mark is not assigned to any further Washington games.”
This is a strange saga that only continues to get stranger. We’ll have to see what is ultimately decided about Jones’s future calling Pac-12 games.
