The Washington Huskies kick off their penultimate conference game today against the Oregon State Beavers, who limp into Husky Stadium having lost seven of their last eight and owning one of the Pac-12’s worst defenses in recent memory. While the Huskies are considered all but a lock to win this game walking away (ESPN’s Football Power Index gives Washington a 98.1 percent chance to win), it’s worth noting that the Beavers field one of the conference’s best running backs in Jermar Jefferson, and won their game against Colorado by overcoming a 31–3 third-quarter deficit before scoring the game’s winning points in overtime. In addition, Jonathan Smith’s familiarity with Chris Petersen’s schemes will surely be a major factor if the Beavers are to engineer an upset a la Washington vs. USC in 2009.
The betting line for today’s game is set at Washington -33.0 while the over/under sits at 58.0, meaning that bettors have predicted a final score of Washington 45, Oregon State 13.
