UCLA Men’s Soccer Heads North to Face the Washington Huskies

After losing 3-0 on September 30th to the Stanford Cardinal, the UCLA men’s soccer team have won four in a row and look to continue their hot streak against the Washington Huskies tonight in Seattle.

Last Time Out

The UCLA Bruins annihilated Loyola Marymount by a final tally of 4-0 last Saturday at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.

The Bruins came roaring out of the gate and took a quick 2-0 lead before LMU scored off of a UCLA turnover to make it 2-1 at the half. Not to worry, though, as UCLA thoroughly dominated in the second half and cruised to a 4-1 victory. The four goals were a season-high for the Bruins. UCLA also outshot LMU 17-4 and 11 of those shots were on target. It was an impressive offensive and defensive performance by the Bruins. Matt Hundley paced the Bruins with 2 goals, while Mohammed Kamara and Joab Santoyo each added a goal of their own.

The win improved the Bruins to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play. This might have been UCLA’s most impressive offensive performance of the season to date.

Washington Huskies

The Bruins won their first meeting against the Huskies 1-0 at home and now it’s UCLA’s turn to hit the road and face Washington.

Since they last squared off in Westwood, the Huskies are 3-2 in their last 5 contests. Overall, Washington sits at a mediocre 8-7 overall and 3-4 in Pac-12 play but they are 4-2 at home compared to 4-5 on the road. Their last game was a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Stanford Cardinal at home.

Offensively, Washington certainly has the ability to score. It’s more of a matter of how the defensive unit holds up. They’ve already given up more than 3 goals four times this season. When the Huskies win, the offense holds up but the defense falls flat, vice-versa in losses this season. It’s certainly been a rollercoaster season so far for UW and they’ll have their work cut out tonight against a white-hot UCLA men’s soccer team.

Outlook

Winners of four straight, the Bruins have enjoyed tremendous plays on both sides of the pitch during their streak. They’re getting contributions from up and down the roster and the young guns have really stepped up. I like their chances to push their win streak to five tonight.

Go Bruins!
