Washington Football Gets Another Standout Cornerback

Washington football gains the commitment of another highly touted cornerback!

The recruiting class of 2019 just got a lot stronger for Washington football, who gained a commitment from four-star cornerback Trent McDuffie out of powerhouse St. John Bosco in Long Beach, California. McDuffie is rated as high as 66th in the country by 247 Sports and has been honored as an All-American, and has committed to play in the All-American Bowl.

Trent is an incredible athlete, who played two ways for most of his high school career, gaining 511 yards and scoring six touchdowns while playing running back. However, McDuffie is listed as a corner and showed off his incredible potential at Bosco this year, with 13 passes defensed and 3 interceptions. He also recovered three fumbles and forced another. His speed and athleticism will be a perfect fir for the Husky defense.

McDuffie joins a defensive backs class that includes two other recruits, Kamren Fabiculanen, and Cameron Williams. McDuffie also elevates the Husky class to 15th in the country, and he becomes the third highest rated recruit in the 2019 class, behind defensive tackles Faatui Tuitele and Jacob Bandes. McDuffie will probably wear a redshirt next season, unless Chris Petersen decides to use him on special teams, similar to the role Elijah Molden played during his freshman year.

This is yet another incredible recruit in a long line of impressive defensive backs for Jimmy Lake, and a big win for the Huskies. McDuffie decided to commit to UW over some other very prominent offers, including Alabama, LSU, Stanford, and Oregon.

McDuffie will be a key piece for the Huskies in a few years, alongside the trio of “first-round talent” freshmen from the 2018 class. Hopefully, the addition of Kelee Ringo in the 2020 class would make the secondary even scarier than it already is (didn’t think that was possible).

Congratulations to Trent on his commitment, and we can’t wait to see him in purple and gold!!
